Why Hardcover?

Many of our customers choose a book with a hardcover, and for a good reason. Hardbounds are not only durable and can take a beating. They also look stylish and can give your book that little bit of elegance it needs. The cover of a hardcover book is made of gray cardboard, which is often covered with a full-color printed paper, over which there is a laminate. Laminate is available in different types such as matt, gloss, and soft-touch laminate. It serves as an extra protective layer but also ensures a nice finish to the cover. In addition to printed paper, you can also choose, for example, linen or artificial leather. It gives an extra unique and qualitative appearance. The interior (book block) of a casebound book is attached to the cover using endpapers. Endpapers can be unprinted, colored paper, or printed. You can also choose to have a reading ribbon or a dust jacket with a hardcover book. In terms of paper or finishing, the possibilities are virtually endless. So do not hesitate to make your special requests known, because we can realize them for you.

Binding hardcover

Hardcover books are usually sew-bound. At the top and bottom for books with a book block of 6mm or more, a capital band is placed at the book block’s top and bottom. This capital band comes in different colors and provides a superior finish, and costs nothing extra. You can also opt for one or more reading ribbons. These are also available in different variants and colors. The book block is then glued into the cover with endpapers. Because it remains separate from the spine, the book falls open nicely. The back can be round (curved) or straight. What you choose is a matter of taste. The endpapers “support” the book block and are usually slightly thicker (standard 85lb of wood-free offset paper) and firmer than the rest of the pages. They are often unprinted, made of white or sometimes colored paper, but can also be printed.

When to choose a hardcover

To decide whether a Casebound is the best choice for your book, we recommend the following. First, start browsing your bookcase. Find your favorite books, take a good look at them, and feel the different paper types. Why do these books appeal to you so much? Second, determine the function of your book. What are your readers going to do with your book? Is it meant to be read-only a few times? Or is it a book that your readers want to keep and give it a prominent place in the bookcase? Third, determine what look your book should have. For example, should it match your company and your corporate identity? Or do you have specific readers in mind that you want to appeal too? Finally, determine the price range of your book. Do you want your book to be cheap and accessible? Or will it be a luxury item?

As you can see, you will have to make several considerations. Do you want to print a stylish and elegant book? Do you want people to enjoy the book for years to come? And does your target audience not mind paying a little more for a book? Then we advise you to have a hardcover book printed.
